Opening Mail in WoW Quicker

closeThis post was published 8 months 27 days ago which may make it out of date. This does not mean the information is wrong, or useless - it is a warning just in case!

So for most normal players, or Prey as we like to call them at AH-Whoring.com now, opening mail is not really an issue. They typically have no need to receive more a couple of dozen at most in any one go. But how do you handle opening hundreds or thousands of mails?

Most of you won’t be saying “Easily, and with no effort on my part!” right about now.

In fact almost all of you will find it a boring, monotimous and laborous task which can take a very long time.

As most of you will have noticed, if your mailbox has more than 50 messages in the inbox, you will only be able to see the first 50 until you remove some. Even after clearing some mail it does take up to a minute or so before any new messages fill in the gaps in your inbox however.

Well there is a way to speed up this process, which is really fast and easy to do.

All you need is to simply type /reload and press Enter after you open the first 50 messages.

This will unsurprisingly, reload your UI, and suddenly your mail box is instantly back to having 50 messages in it, until you have less than that in total. So no longer do you have to wait the minute or so between batches!

If you have fairly good load times this can speed up the rate at which you open your mail by over half!

/reload

There are a couple of drawbacks to this method however.

One is that you simply get the loading screen and the progress bar until you are back in to the game. This means you can’t chat, use the AH, craft..or do anything at all on WoW in these loading periods.

You can offset this by using the time to do other things, outside of World of Warcraft.

The other is that if your computer sometimes struggles to fully load World of Warcraft, and you get ‘World of Warcraft Errors’ on the loading screen, they can happen while reloading too. Obviously if they don’t happen to you then this is not an issue at all.

It is also worth noting that using /reload updates your saved variables. What that means is all of your settings and addon data is saved once you do it.

While this trick is not new, it is something that I feel a lot of people overlook because of its minor drawbacks. On top of that a lot of more experienced players don’t share this trick with others, not because they are trying to be sneaky and hide it from you, but because they forget that not everyone knows about it!

Tomorrow’s video blogpost was supposed to be about Postal, an addon which in my opinion is essential to anyone who makes use of their mailbox… and if you don’t ever use the mailbox, you are doing something wrong!

However because my World of Warcraft account ran out, and I can’t reactivate it yet (doh!) I can’t make the video. As such there will be two r

I prefer using Mailopener, it will automatically close and open the mailbox every tenth second or so and uses postal to open it for me, letting me go do something else while opening mail.

    There will be two r…?

Also, I was hoping you were going to explain a fix for WoW errors at one point there :<

@Belsebub Indeed, will mention MailOpener however it requires Postal – which is what today’s view was going to be about ;) Then tomorrow was going to be mail opener. The best laid plans and all that!

@Veliaf Whopse, it cut my blog post short? “two reviews of blogs instead that are owed.”

Also what WoW errors do you mean?

This process is an excellent way to open mail and if you turn off all addon’s less postal and QA the process only takes seconds to reload. If auctioneer is loaded the process takes much longer so I turn that addon off while processing mail. Make a /reload macro and put on speed bar so I hit it as soon as last message is uploaded.

dont forget to disable all your non-essential mods on your bank alt. disabling deadly boss mods, xperl, bartender, omen, etc will drastically reduce your load time after /reload

Thanks for the post. Here’s what i do. First I have Addon control panel:

    http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/acp.aspx

This allows you to set addons within the game, just need to reload. It also allows you to have sets of addons that you can save as profiles. So my bank toon has a normal setup with QA2 and so forth, and another set with just postal. For the first 50 mail I just grab as normal. Then i reset to the postal-only config, reloadui. Get the next 50. Now each next 50 is a very quick UI reload since the only addon is postal. Finally go back to your normal setup, reloadui. It may sound complex but I’m only spending a minute or two grabbing all my 200 items from the mailbox, as opposed to 5-10 min in the past.
