Too Many Sellers, Not Enough Buyers

closeThis post was published 9 months 3 days ago which may make it out of date. This does not mean the information is wrong, or useless - it is a warning just in case!
This post is a Freeloader Friday Post.

This means that it is either a guest post by someone else or a a question sent my way by one of you.

If it is a question, rather than me answering the idea is for all of you to lend a hand – so please help out our friend in need by giving answers or suggestions in the comments!

To find out more on how you can guest post for AH-Whoring, or how you can ask me questions to answer here, check out Getting Involved.

This Freeloader Friday was meant to be posted on the 23rd of October 2009, hence why there it is being posted on a Wednesday!

Today’s Freeloader Friday is a question sent to me by Wee. His trouble is that there just is not enough people buying his glyphs!

He is posting roughly 500 glyphs, five single stacks of roughly 100 different glyphs. Yet even with a price of 5g each, he is only selling 10 or so glyphs total a day.

Wee’s pretty sure no one is managing to undercut him under his threshold which is at crafting costs, so how can he start selling more glyphs?

Help out and give some suggestions in the comments!

Mqaybe he is posting the glyphs that nobody wants. There are a lot of shitty glyphs nobody sane would touch. Do some research on what good and bad glyphs are.

  2. Tunasaladin says:

Like above said, there are many glyphs people simply do not want. Do some research into popular specs for classes ex. classes switch alot to heal spec for raid and dps for after raid or vice versa. Alot of people so it seems still do not have dual spec (atleast on my server). Ive noticed the same people repeatedly buying glyphs every day or two.

Just gotta find your niche in the market. Do you have all of the mastery books? If not I’d recommend picking them up as there are alot of good sellers from them!

In addition to the above, I’ve noticed that my glyphs for melee classes sell a lot more than those for ranged classes. In particular, Paladin, Death Knight, Warrior and (to a lesser extent) Rogue. It may also be that some of the more popular class glyphs are those that can be made by levelling scribes and are often on the AH so cheap it’s not worth making them.

Same as the above, but another good idea is to sell glyphs that are for hybrid classes or classes you know will be dual-speccing. They tend to change out glyphs more.

Wee needs to do a little research on his server’s glyph market. What glyphs are selling and which ones aren’t? What are typical prices for each glyph? Who are his competitors? Thinking about questions like these should help to better inform his future decisions about glyph selling.

I’d like to echo what orcstar and Tunasaladin said below. Maybe he is selling glyphs that nobody wants. Further, maybe he is selling ‘leveling glyphs’. On my server there are some glyphs, like glyph of dispell magic, that are almost always under 1g. This is because people use them to level up rather than for making money. As a result, the price crashes and it is impossible to sell those glyphs at cost, much less for a profit.

I find that the research glyphs generally sell better than the trainer glyphs, too. The key, of course, is knowing your market.

I think one of the hard things when trying to decide what glyphs to make is you can look at the AH and see which ones have been posted for a decent amount but you can’t tell which ones actually sell. It’s just a question of trial and error i think.

Hey guys thanks for the advice! I dont sell glyphs that are always cheap (someone used “leveling glyphs”) they just aren’t worth my time. Funny thing is right after I sent my question my business doubled and has been slowly creeping up since. Nothing game breaking but its nice to see an increase rather than a decrease or no change.

    thanks again

Auctioneer’s beancounter is your best friend in tracking down what sells and what doesn’t.

@Hulan – I have notice that too. I had all my glyphs on 1 alt. WHen he got inundated I moved that caster glyphs to another alt. The original kept getting loads of sails, but the new alt with the caster glyphs gets far less.I’ve gotta guess it’s because they’re not hybrids and therefore don’t change spec as often (the cheap ass ones that haven’t got dual spec yet anyway!!!)
